June 13, 2008: Sisters Showing Ourselves Some Love
June 2nd, 2008 under Commentary. [ Comments: none ]

It is a common saying that in the process of caring for others, women often forget to care for themselves. As leaders of homes, we work tirelessly to ensure that our children are fed, our bills paid, and our homes clean and free from drama. In the process, however, we forget that sometimes the soul that needs the most nurturing is our own. This is a problem–one that leads to increased rates of hypertension and exhaustion, not to mention depression and other illnesses and health risks. In fact, according to the Black Women’s Health Imperative, African American women have the worst health on almost every health index compared to other groups of women. On June 13, 2008, The Black Infant Health Improvement Project will raise awareness regarding these issues through a community event, Sisters First: Healthy Babies and Healthy Families Begin With Us!

Event Details:
When: June 13, 2008 from 3pm to 8pm
Where: Black Infant Health Improvement Program
1290 Fillmore at Eddy Street
San Francisco, CA

For More Information: (415) 776-4457

Please join the Black Infant Health Improvement Program for an evening of yoga and meditation, massages, lessons to support a more peaceful lifestyle, make-overs, and inspiring words from Dr. Lasha Pierce, Interim Director of Maternal Child Health for Alameda County. It’s time that sisters started showing themselves some love. When we love ourselves, we inspire our children to do the same.
